On Tuesday, Nov. 3, many Minnesota school districts will ask their communities to extend a lifeline. The districts are asking local voters to do what the state has failed to do: provide the necessary funding for their schools. If the levies fail, school funding will fall—and so will educational quality in the affected districts, according to Education Minnesota President Tom Dooher.“These districts won’t be able to offer students the education they’re getting now. Class sizes will get bigger, more programs will be eliminated and student fees will go even higher,” Dooher said. Ninety percent of Minnesota districts now rely on operating levies, up from 78 percent six years ago.
