Write the National Mediation Board to support Delta Machinists and Flight Attendants

Nov 24 2009

Afalogo_clear President Obama’s picks for the National Mediation Board (NMB) are poised to overturn a long-standing undemocratic aspect of labor law for workers governed under the Railway Labor Act.

Former Northwest Airline workers, now part of Delta, are looking forward to a change in the rules that will usher in a democratic voting process. You, too, can help to support this change.

Presently, under the Railway Labor Act, a representation election requires yes votes from the majority of workers eligible to vote, rather than yes votes from the majority of people who cast their vote. The proposed change would call for recognition of a union based on the will of the majority of voters-just like most democratic election processes. The Machinists (IAMAW) and the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) unions will file for representation elections as soon as the National Mediation Board makes their final decision.

Let the National Mediation Board know that you support the rule change that calls for recognition of a union based on the will of a majority of the voters.
