Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bernie Burnham made the following statement on the beginning of the 2025 Legislative Session:
“Working Minnesotans expect their elected leaders to set extreme partisanship aside and represent us. Instead, House Republicans are using the first day of the Legislative Session to act out their own version of January 6th at the State Capitol.
“Minnesotans voted to elect 67 Republicans and 67 DFLers to the House in November – and the chamber will more than likely remain equally divided when residents of district 40B elect a representative to fill their vacant seat two weeks from today.
“Instead of attempting to seize power by holding legally questionable proceedings, House Republicans should return to the power sharing agreement and get back to work.
“Every day that House Republicans waste playing pretend is one less day to pass a state budget that allows Minnesota to thrive and pass an infrastructure bill to create jobs and improve our communities.”
