Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bill McCarthy issued the following statement on the Legislature’s adjournment of this month’s special session:
“We commend lawmakers for joining together to take the first step toward police accountability and reform this week. Lawmakers need to build on this progress to help create a more just state. Minnesota’s Labor Movement will continue to stand in solidarity with all people who are subjected to discrimination, oppression, indignity and inequity.”
We are, however, extremely disappointed in House Republicans’ continued obstruction of a local jobs and projects package that will strengthen our infrastructure and provide much needed economic stimulus. COVID-19 has caused working Minnesotans unprecedented economic anxiety and a job-creating bonding bill is one of the most effective things state government can do to create jobs in communities across Minnesota.
With the Legislature expected to reconvene in August, we urge House Republicans to do the right thing by putting partisanship aside to support the local jobs and projects bonding bill.”
