Nurses to Vote on Contract Proposal Today
12,000 union Registered Nurses will vote today on a tentative contract agreement today. While the agreement leaves staffing ratios unresolved, there is not a single takeback in the contract. Hospitals had previously tried to gut nurses' pension and health care benefits.
Upon hearing of the agreement, Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson said, "Metro area nurses made a historic stand for patient care and dignity in the workplace. Their action shows that workers can and should stand up for themselves and the people they serve."
At least 51 percent of voting members must approve the contract in order for the agreement to take effect.
