Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bill McCarthy issued the following statement on the conclusion of the 2016 legislative session:
“Eleven weeks ago, working Minnesotans had high expectations for their legislators. Both Governor Dayton and the Senate DFL majority committed to doing their part to improve the lives of all working people.
“Governor Dayton and DFLers pushed forward with legislation including a paid family leave insurance program, a job-creating investment in infrastructure, and a long-term, comprehensive transportation bill. Unfortunately, House Republicans tried to take resources from schools and public services, ran out the clock on an infrastructure bonding bill, flat out ignored paid family leave, short-changed education, and attacked public employees and their unions.
“House Republicans failed working Minnesotans. We deserve better.”
