Statement on reports the DOJ is investigating Governor Walz & Mayor Frey

In response to reports the Department of Justice is investigating Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bernie Burnham made the following statement:

“Instead of investigating the killing of Renee Good and ICE’s dangerous conduct in Minnesota and across the nation, the Trump Administration is instead weaponizing the Justice Department to settle more of the President’s personal and political grudges.

“This move plainly shows ICE’s presence in Minnesota is about satisfying Donald Trump’s ego and implementing his administration’s radical agenda – not enforcing immigration law.

“Minnesotans are sick and tired of the weeks of harassment and chaos. ICE has detained scores of Minnesota’s union members – including US citizens and legal residents – denying many the due process our constitution guarantees. Minnesota’s Labor Movement once again calls on ICE to leave our state – you are making our communities less safe.”
