Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bernie Burnham made the following statement in response to a letter from Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to Republican Congressional Leaders regarding funding for the Department of Homeland Security:

“Minnesotans have had enough of ICE. After enduring two months of federally-induced violence and chaos, Minnesotans demand that ICE leave Minnesota immediately and there be justice for Renee Good, our Union Brother Alex Pretti, and all victims of ICE's cruelty and violence.

The AFL-CIO has called on Congressional Leadership to rescind ICE’s historic $150 billion dollar appropriation and re-invest in priorities important to working people like making essentials like food and healthcare more affordable.

“We call on our state’s Congressional Delegation to stand up for Minnesotans and everyone who values democracy and safer communities. Putting the guardrails back on ICE is the first step, not the final goal.”
