Labor 2010 Volunteer Spotlight: Judy Reierson

Judy Reierson’s daughter recently told her, “If you don’t get busy and get involved, you can’t complain.” Judy took those words to heart. Now, a little more than a month later, Judy is calling fellow UFCW Local 1189 members for Mark Dayton. Judy’s union activism includes a recent election to her negotiations committee for contract negotiations with UFCW Local 1189 that begin this winter.

A UFCW member for 16 years, Judy has worked at Cub in Stillwater and now at Byerly’s in St. Paul. She is a jack of all trades at the store, working check out as well as in many of the different departments. Often times, co-workers refer customers who have language barriers or other special needs to Judy so she can help them. She has the gift of working out problems and smoothing out any frustrations customers have that come with not being able to be understood. These skills combined make her an ideal Labor 2010 volunteer, especially when calling undecided or persuadable voters.

Judy believes that along with the collective voice of her union, union members need to have a collective voice at the polls in November. That’s why UFCW has joined with Labor 2010 to elect candidates who will fight for working families in Minnesota. We applaud Judy’s efforts and look forward to electing Mark Dayton as Governor on November 2.
