Emmer sides with shady Wall Street tactics

May 4, 2010--The Minnesota AFL-CIO applauded House lawmakers for eliminating a corporate tax avoidance scheme to avoid further cuts to health care. The provision will prevent big corporations from using offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes. Closing this loophole will generate new revenue, softening cuts to Minnesota’s health care infrastructure.

“This will level the playing field for Minnesota businesses that keep their profits here at home,” said Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson. “Middle-class Minnesotans don’t hide their money overseas, why should we allow big corporations to do so?”

Knutson added that the 78 to 55 vote shows exactly where gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer stands.

“By voting ‘no,’ Tom Emmer showed he stands with big corporations and shady Wall Street tactics,” Knutson said. “Tom Emmer does not share Minnesota middle-class values.”
