Labor 2010 Volunteer Spotlight: Kevin Dorff
Kevin Dorff is a letter carrier at Branch 28 in St. Paul and is current Labor 2010 release staff for St. Paul Regional Labor Federation. He is willing to do the work to get our labor-endorsed candidates into office, and sees the importance of increasing union member voter turnout at each election cycle.
Kevin’s call to action as a union member came about 8 years ago when he was dissatisfied with a steward in the union. He went to talk to the union president about it, and the president turned it around and asked Kevin to run for steward. For Kevin, the most valuable thing he has learned as steward is that he “learned to keep my cool when things get crazy.” In addition, he has learned “what you can do to affect change, then don’t worry about the things you can’t.” Fellow union members trust Kevin as their steward, and he believes it is because “I take the time to learn about the contract. Most people only need the contract when they really need it.”
His trustworthiness has made him a great release staff for Labor 2010. In fact, he has been working for Labor 2010 since before Labor Day, phonebanking and doorknocking. Kevin has been active since the ’04 elections and in every election cycle since. He knows that the time is now for Mark Dayton, “It has taken 22 years to do it. The last eight years have been the worst for working families. It is time to get this state back on track.”
Kevin’s Election Day plans are to GOTV all day. With his ballot cast and property taxes paid on October 15, he is ready to win this election for working families.
