Mankato area union members and their families gathered at Sibley Park in Mankato on Sunday for a picnic sponsored by the Mankato Area Labor Assembly, part of the SE Area Labor Council. Over 50 people attended the picnic and enjoyed food, a root beer keg, games and speakers. Affliliates were greeted by Paul Marquardt, Mankato Area Labor Assembly President, and heard from Laura Askelin, SE Minnesota Area Labor Council President and Steve Hunter, MN AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer.

Participants met their fellow union members, signed a healthcare reform petition, and signed up for e-activist alerts. AFSCME Local 638, IBEW, Letter Carriers, 49ers, and Plumbers were there to enjoy the day. Their children played various games and planted seeds that they could take home to watch grow

SE Area Labor Council staffer Liz McLoone adds, "This picnic was a way to have a good time while bringing together the union community in Mankato. Because when we are united, we are stronger. And that makes it easier to fight for working families."
