GOP Budget Hurts Middle Class Families

As Republican legislators completed budget conference committee reports, Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson issued the following statement:

“For the last decade, Minnesota’s state budget has been balanced on the backs of middle class families.

“The Legislature’s all-cuts budget continues to squeeze the middle class through higher property taxes on families and small businesses, higher college tuition, increased health care costs, and fewer local services we rely on.

“Their budget demands the middle class continue to sacrifice without asking the richest Minnesotans and big corporations to share the burden.

“Instead of defending the richest 2%, it’s time for lawmakers to follow Governor Dayton’s leadership and agree to a compromise solution that helps create jobs and is fair for all Minnesotans.”
