Local Works! Initiative
Minnesota businesses shift 10%-20% of their total spending from chains to locally owned businesses. This relatively small change in spending patterns can produce a big benefit for Minnesota’s economy – creating hundreds of jobs and generating millions of dollars annually in new economic activity. Studies show that local businesses spend a much larger share of their revenue (two to three times as much on average) in the local area as national changes and online retailers do. More money circulating in the local economy means more jobs.
