ACTION ALERT: Make Your Voice Heard at the End of Session

Social share icons

There’s less than a week remaining in the 2011 Legislative Session. The choices are clear. Lawmakers can work with Governor Dayton to create jobs, balance the budget fairly, make taxes fair, and protect middle class families.

There are multiple opportunities to come to the Capitol starting Thursday morning.

May 19 to May 21: Protect the Middle Class

Join fellow Minnesotans at the Capitol Thursday, May 19 through Monday, May 23 to tell legislators to stop the attack on working people and to protect the middle class. Watch conference committees and floor sessions as legislators make vital choices. Will they vote to:

• Create jobs or cut jobs?

• Make the rich pay their fair share or increase property taxes on the middle class?

• Stay focused on creating jobs and balancing the budget or attack working families?

Sign up for a shift.

May 20: Invest in Minnesota Day of Action

Now is a critical time to voice your support for a balanced approach that includes

raising revenue fairly. Demonstrate your support at Invest in Minnesota’s May 20 Day of Action. Meet at 10:15 a.m. outside Room 125 in the State Capitol for a press conference and to deliver messages to legislators. Please RSVP with your name, organization, and turnout commitment, including legislative districts represented, to Becky at 651-757-3078 or bsiekmeier@mnbudgetproject.org. With questions, contact Leah at 651-757-3063 or lgardner@mnbudgetproject.org.

May 20: Minnesota Building Trades Capitol Visibility

Legislators have had five months to pass a jobs and infrastructure bill and other job creation initiatives. They haven’t acted. Instead, they’re trying to reduce construction wages and eliminate overtime. It’s time to ensure lawmakers don’t leave St. Paul without creating jobs. Join building trades workers at the Capitol on Friday, May 20th. Contact your local union for more information.

May 21: People's Rally for a Fair Minnesota

We’ve had enough—we are all working harder to make ends meet while our schools, parks, health care, child care, and public safety are all threatened by a cuts-only strategy at the State Capitol.

Come Saturday, May 21st at the People’s Rally for a Fair Minnesota. We'll rally at the Capitol Rotunda starting at 10:30 a.m. Read more on Facebook.

May 23: End of Session Rally at the Capitol

Rather than working with Gov. Dayton to pass a budget that supports public services by taxing the rich, some lawmakers are playing political games that could shutdown government. Union members want to work for Minnesota and we’re going to tell lawmakers “Don’t go home without a fair budget.” Join AFSCME and MAPE at the State Capitol (75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Paul) on Monday, May 23. We’ll rally inside the capitol from 9 p.m. until midnight. We want a huge crowd for the evening news.
