Twin Cities Pride Parade update:
Parade is this Sunday, June 24 beginning at 11 AM.
The Minnesota AFL-CIO is assigned spot 43 in the parade lineup, but since we will have a float we will be staging with the other float entrants in the parking lot at 3rd Street South and Hennepin Avenue (across from the Central Library). We are asking participants to aim for a 10 AM arrival so we can self-organize before the parade begins.
Union members (friends and family) who will be marching with the MN AFL-CIO are asked to rsvp at: http://aflcio.mn/Kwjfbx
New this year, the parade ends at Hennepin and Spruce, but the contingency continues on Hennepin to the Dunwoody Institute parking lot for dispersal (just after the I 94 underpass). Union members walking with the MN AFL-CIO may want to park at the Dunwoody Institute, and walk up Hennepin Ave. to the beginning of the parade route at 3rd and Hennepin, so they will be at their car at the end of the route, or arrange a carpooling system with other people from their union who are participating.
Float building volunteers: On Thursday, June 21 at 4 PM we will assemble a float at the MN AFL-CIO Labor Pavilion at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds (corner of Dan Patch and Cooper, just inside the main gate on Snelling Ave.). All are welcome, and no previous float building experience is necessary.
We will be distributing candy to spectators along the parade route. Unions that want to donate candy should either bring the treats to the float building party or drop candy off at the Minnesota AFL-CIO office (175 Aurora Ave., St. Paul 55103) before Friday, June 22. Please try to avoid chocolate or varieties that easily melt since we don’t know what the temperature will be on parade day. A list of union made candy is at: http://www.unionplus.org/union-made/easter-candy
