A special message from Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson:
Union brothers and sisters in Minnesota have asked me, “What can we do to assist those suffering from the devastating earthquake in Haiti? What can be done to help?”
Here are some things you can do:
- Nurses who are volunteering their time to help. 243 Minnesotan union nurses have stepped up to care for those who need it. Donate to RN Response Network: www.nationalnursesunited.org.
- Provide in-kind volunteer assistance. Donations can be made to the Solidarity Center Emergency Relief Fund to ensure that assistance reaches Haitian workers and their families. For more information, see their website at www.solidaritycenter.org.
- Volunteer by contacting the Center for International Disaster Information at www.cidi.org or call 703-276-1914.
If you wish to make a donation, the national AFL-CIO has the following suggestions:
- Partners in Health: www.pih.org/inforesources/news/Haiti_Earthquake.html - or send your contribution to Partners in Health, P.O. Box 845578, Boston, MA 02284-5578.
