Thousands rally in Solidarity events in MN, WI

Over 100,000 people joined in Saturday's rally for Wisconsin workers in Madison on Saturday, despite the cold temperatures and snow. Hundreds of Minnesota supporters rallied in Madison and in Minnesota throughout the week as well. Many of our affiliates are travelling to Madison on a daily basis, by carpool or bus. Hudson Solidarity event with WI Workers

Hundreds and hundreds of Minnesota and Wisconsin union members and supporters rallied at a solidarity event in Hudson last Saturday over I-94 and Carmichael Road to defeat. Activists gathered to show their support as they face an ugly battle against Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker who wants to slash collective bargaining rights of public workers. read more »

Rally in Madison

Minnesotans are invited to travel to Madison and rally with workers at the Wisconsin State Capitol at Noon. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka will be among the speakers at this rally. read more »

More than 400 union members packed the House Governmental Operations Committee hearing room, outside halls, and overflow room at last Thursday’s hearing of House File 192 which included a so-called “Right to Work” constitutional amendment, a wage freeze for public employees and removal of PELRA laws. read more »

Worksite Leafleting on the Iron Range

Virginia, MN -Union members met up in Virginia this afternoon to continue worksite leafleting before election day. Members met at Minntac where USW Local 1938 has membership and handed out flyers as the first shift ended. It was extremely cold and blustery, but that didn't stop the smiles amidst frigid fingers and reminders to vote for labor-endorsed Mark Dayton for governor. Jarso Wario knows how to change things for the better. A UNITE HERE Local 17 member for four and a half years, Jarso works for SkyChefs and sits on the National Organizing Committee to organize other SkyChefs throughout the country. Melina Martinez is one to watch. A UFCW member of Local 1161, she works at the JBS Swift Plant in Worthington, and is release staff for the West Area Labor Council through elections. She joined fellow UFCW members and MN AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson on Monday at the Toro plant in Windom, MN to worksite flyer IAM members at shift change. read more »
